Caliber
I didn’t know that men of your caliber
Existed outside of the fairy-tale world
Shame on you for ruining my perception.
I didn’t think anyone could see
Or hear, or care for someone broken as me ,
But the moment I met you I felt connection.
You took my hand inside one of your own,
Said,”come follow me, do not go it alone.”.
And awakened a beast that had been sleeping
You listened, and learned me, like the back of your hand
Made the effort to really understand
All of the secrets I’d been keeping.
You got inside of my heart, and my head,
Never once trying to crawl into my bed.
The first gentle man I’d known in a long time
And in the quiet moments, when I was alone,
I’d weigh you against all the men that I’d known
With every heartbeat, wanted you to be mine,
But life has a funny way of changing her tune,
There’s another soul you’ve committed to.
Somehow in this moment, I am truly all right
I’m grateful for the care that you’ve shown me,
Grateful for the way you’ve helped me see
That men like you exist out there
I will remember you the rest of my life
As I look for someone with as much warmth, and light
As you, my torchbearer.
